Prof. ANDRES RODRIGUEZ-POSE, PhD

Professor of Economic Geography at the London School of Economics. He was the President of the Regional Science Association International, where he served also as Vice-President in 2014. He has also been Vice-President (2012-2013) and Secretary (2001-2005) of the European Regional Science Association. He is a regular advisor to numerous international organizations, including the European Commission, the European Investment Bank, the World Bank, the Cities Alliance, the OECD, the International Labour Organization, the Food and Agriculture Organization, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Development Bank of Latin America. He is an editor of Economic Geography and sits on the editorial board of 30 other scholarly journals, including many of the leading international journals in economic geography, human geography, regional science, and management. He is the former holder of a European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant and the only social scientist to have been awarded the Royal Society-Wolfson Research Merit Award.

Prof. PETER NIJKAMP, PhD

Emeritus Professor in regional and urban economics, and in economic geography at Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam. From 2009 until 2015, he was Honorary University Professor at the same university. He has been president of the governing board of the Netherlands Research Council (NWO) (2002-2009). He is also former president of the European Regional Science Association and of the Regional Science Association International. He is Fellow of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences, and former vice-president of this organization. In 1996, Peter Nijkamp was awarded the most prestigious scientific prize in the Netherlands, the Spinoza award.

Prof. LIDIJA PETRIĆ, PhD

Lidija Petrić is professor at the Faculty of Economics, University of Split.  The basic areas of her scientific interest are: economics of tourism, the role of tourism in regional and urban development, destination strategic management and planning, visitor management strategies, cultural tourism. She wrote a number of scientific and professional papers, reviews, conference proceedings and scientific-professional studies. As a guest lecturer she attended professional conferences and seminars, postgraduate studies, as well as international conferences and seminars. As an expert she cooperated with international associations such as UNDP, GEF, WWF, UNEP, the public bodies from national to local level as well as non-governmental institutions, participating in and also coordinating a number of projects. She currently participates in several international projects financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). She is a member of the editorial board of several scientific journals as well as of scientific committees of several international conferences. She is a member of the International Association of Regional Economists of Europe - the European Regional Scientists Association and the Scientific Committee for Tourism at the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Associate Prof. SMILJANA PIVČEVIĆ, PhD

Smiljana Pivčević is an associate professor of tourism at the Faculty of Economics, University of Split where she teaches several tourism related subjects and acts as the Head of National Economy Department. Her research interests are mainly related to innovation in tourism, tourism development and strategic management in hospitality and events. She is the author of a number of scientific and professional papers published in scientific journals, conference proceedings and book chapters. In recent years, she has been involved in several regional and local tourism development projects/strategies, as an expert but also as the project leader. Furthermore, she is currently involved in several international projects financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), ERASMUS+ and European Social Fund, as an expert and in one of them as the University team leader.  

Prof. JAN VAN DER BORG, PhD  

Jan van den Borg is currently visiting professor in tourism management at the KU Leuven. He combines this position with a professorship in applied economics at the University Ca’Foscari of Venice. Moreover, he chairs the executive board of European Institute for Comparative Urban Research (EURICUR.). He frequently advises national and local governments and firms on issues regarding the economic importance of tourism, creativity and culture for local and regional economies and on regional tourism policies in particular. He teaches all over the world and is often invited as a key note speaker in international conferences. Moreover, he is a regular columnist for national and local newspaper, addressing themes such as regional development, regional policies and tourism management. Among the research topics that he is recently developing are: the concept of carrying capacity in mature destinations; the use of ICT in tourism development strategies; the creative economy; big- and open data and destination audits; visitor management strategies and smart destinations. Most of his publications deal with the economic aspects of tourism, with special attention to cultural tourism development and to the impact of tourism projects at the local and regional scale.

KARIMA KOURTIT, PhD

Karima Kourtit is post-doc researcher at KTH (with a double Ph.D. degree both in economics and geography (with distinction), with a profound interest in regional and urban topics. Her main research interest focuses on the emerging ‘New Urban World’. Her main scientific research is in the field of creative industries, urban development, cultural heritage, digital technology, and strategic performance management. Lately, she has been involved in the implementation of national and international research projects and initiatives.  Furthermore, she has been involved as a guest editor of several books and many international journals, and has published a wide array of scientific papers, articles, special issues of journals and edited volumes in the field of geography and the spatial sciences.
